ROUTE THROUGH THE SACRATIF CLIFFS

Starting point: Extreme East of the coastal promenade of Torrenueva.

Route: From the coastal promenade we follow a path towards the East between different buildings. A little way after passing between two green houses you will find a footpath to the right towards the coast, where we will come across a viewpoint over the cliffs. We continue along the path over the cliffs, until the path going down to the nudist beach, La Joya.

     
The route follows during a small way, uphill, to the access road to the beach. Finally, carry on inland through a narrow path between two farm estates, which finishes in the car park situated next to the national 340 road.

ROUTE THROUGH THE AZUD DE LOS VADOS (VADOS DAM)

Starting point: Entrance barrier to the Hydrographical Confederation. We can get there through the Minasierra country road, or from the national 340 road, taking the exit to the east through an agricultural road just in front of the Lobres dam. Following this road you will find the entrance barrier to the Hydrographical Confederation; next to this we will find the first information panel.

Route: This route starts next to the informative panel, following the main road. Soon we leave to the left a secondary path and, continuing on the main route we pass below an aqueduct that gives way to an open area with crops. After a series of bends, we enter into a repopulated pine tree area. Later on the pine trees are on are right hand side of the path, while on the left there is a rocky slope with avocado trees. Following on there are various entrances to the Panata property and also above a small stream. A little further on there is a viewpoint and past this we continue along the path. Shortly after there is an irrigation channel parallel to the path. Where the irrigation channel crosses the road, we leave the rough path to the left. The route continues along the main road, reaching an intersection with another path, that we take to the right. Soon the path comes out to a road, where we must take the Granada direction and walking where possible off the road. After a few minutes we pass opposite the Vados Dam and then the rural path going to where we began.

ROUTE ALONG THE OLD ROAD TO GRANADA

Starting point: The access path in the North of Motril, opposite “El Mirador”.

Route: This route starts in the northern area above Motril known as “El Mirador” with fantastic views over the whole of the town, from where an un made-up path leads up to the hill side of the Cerro Gordo, leaving to the left a small works pavilion. When you reach the transformer building, we leave this path and take a track that goes to the left, which is first of all parallel to the path and then separates going up the hillside. On the right we pass by a large carcava, produced by a hydraulic erosion. Slightly higher up, on our right you will find a magnificent view of the Cerro del Toro. The route continues uphill, until its end on the Northeast hillside of the Cerro Gordo, on the route of the old road going to Granada.

ROUTE THROUGH THE CAMINO DE LOS MOLINOS

Starting point: Opposite the School Workshop of the Fabriquilla. On the road from Motril to El Puntalón.

Route: We continue to the East along the road until the San Fernando Factory. In front of the factory, to the right of the road, we take the path going to the area known as "los Molinos". Past the mills, we come to another road that we take to the right; a little further on, we will come to another road that we will take to the left, which will take us directly up to the main road, just in front of the "Beatriz Galindo" Secondary School. Taking the road to the right, we pass by the Cortijo del Conde, (the fair ground area), and the football ground. We continue until the point where a stream crosses the road. Immediately past the stream there is road with a padlock that takes us behind, to finally return to the road, that we will take towards Motril.

ROUTE OF THE DEFENSE OF THE COAST

Starting point: The parking area next to the Castle of Carchuna.

Route: From the car park, the path goes East along the road parallel to the coast, crossing the rambla del Rejón. Under a kilometre from the crossing of this avenue, and walking now on the beach’s edge, we come across the inclined tower. Continuing along the beach we reach Calahonda and pass by the church. At this point the route divides. Continuing along the beach we reach the cliffs. Returning next to the church of Calahonda, we take the road inland, crossing the national 340 road, on the road that goes along the base of a fossil cliff (Camino del Puntal.) After half a kilometre, we reach the Bigotes cave. After another 500 metres, we finally reach the end of the route, situated next to the site of the “afar” of Calahonda (old pottery factory).

ROUTE OF EL MARAUTE

Starting point: Camino de la Cañada, near to the cemetery of Torrenueva. On top of the hill on which you will find the Maraute site, through the Mirador de la Bahía street.

Route: A few metres from the start, we will find the informative panel of this route. We continue along the camino de la Cañada, that leaves a branch road to the left; a little further on, we find to the right an un surfaced road parallel to the irrigation ditch, which is the one we will take. The road divides and we take the one to the left, until we join one that is larger than the one that we take to the right. Guiding ourselves with the footpath signposts, this route will take us on a circular route, through the high part of the hill until back to the starting point.

ROUTE OF THE KARST DE CALAHONDA

Starting point: The access road to the cortijo del Moral from the road going to Gualchos.

Route: From the start of this route, we take the road going to Gualchos on the left. We continue along the road 150 metres, until on the right, we find an access path to the fuente del Moral. We take this path and pass by the fountain, that we leave t o the left a few metres from the entrance, and next to the ruins of the old Venta del Moral. Next to the ruins the path bends to the left and begins to climb up the hillside. When you are in front of a support tower for an electricity line, the path turns to the right, and after climbing a little we begin to descend. After some 300 metres, you will reach an area where you come across some rugged rocks. The route continues until finally reaching the road going to Gualchos, where we finish.

THE SUBTROPICAL PLANTATIONS

Starting point: In front of the Almudena factory or from the Pilar Factory (on Ronda de Poniente road).

Route: Towards the West taking, to the left, the country road through Minasierra area. This route will take us through numerous sugar cane plantations as well as wonderful views towards the sea. This route continues to the Casa de los Bates.

RROUTE OF THE SUGAR CANE FACTORIES

Starting point: The route begins from the main ring road of Motril (Ronda de Poniente), in the country road known as camino de Minasierra, tarmacked and that runs parallel to the irrigation ditch.

Route: Following the road to the West, parallel to the irrigation channel, we reach El Candelón. Then continuing parallel to the irrigation channel we come across the Almudena Factory. Taking the road that goes up to the right opposite the factory’s door, we pass by the San Luis factory. Continuing along the road we reach the Nuestra Señora del Pilar factory. Finally the road comes out again to the main ring road (Ronda de Poniente) where we finish.

ROUTE THROUGH THE PLAIN OF MOTRIL

Starting point: The “Pueblos de América” park.

Route: From the park, the route follows the road that goes to the port, which we take to the left (towards the sea). We pass by the Alcoholera. We carry on this road until on our left, past some industrial warehouses, we take the camino de la capitana, with good surfacing. This route goes through sugar cane plantations. After 600 metres, we get to a intersection, from where we take the camino del Serrecín to the left. Continuing along this route we finally come out to the rambla de los Álamos; parallel to this there is a road that we will take to the left. This road finally leads to the roads in the South of Motril, from where we can return to the “Pueblos de América” park.

HUMID AREAS

Starting point: Opposite the Playa de Poniente camp site.

Route: From the car park opposite the Playa de Poniente campsite we begin this route along the beach promenade towards the port of Motril. We continue until we find where the Balate de la Culebra crosses the promenade, from this point onwards we will come across diverse landscapes linked to the presence of water in the plain of Motril. We go along the left side of the Balate de la Culebra, crossing the road parallel to the coast and joining an un surfaced road that runs adjacent with the irrigation ditch. We continue along the road parallel to the small stream until reaching an intersection with a surfaced road. Here we take the camino de la Patria, to the left. We continue along this road that joins another road to the right (camino de Río seco). After 200 metres, and taking the path to the left (camino de Pescadores) that we will go along until reaching a new narrow road that we will take on our left, towards the coast. This road finishes in the Granada Beach. The route continues along this beach, in an easterly direction.
